Love INC Clearinghouse
Love INC screens and validates the needs called into the Clearinghouse from church referrals. This helps to end duplication of services and helps the churches work together in meeting crisis needs in Monmouth County. With the cost of living so high in our county, working together to meet a need that has been validated can allow the churches to be good stewards of their finances as well as Good Samaritans. The Love INC Clearinghouse also acts as a referral source to put people in touch with agencies that may also meet their needs. In 2005, $35,573 was given for utilities, gas, and shelter to individuals and families in need. Also, $2,280 worth of groceries was distributed.

Not only does Furnished with Love accept donations of furniture, it also donates furniture to those in need. In 2005, over $51,400 worth of free furniture was distributed throughout the county. In Monmouth County, public transportation does not meet the needs of the poor, who solely rely on it to get to and from work. Through the Needs Assessment Survey, the United Way of Monmouth County has identified that the third most crucial need in our county is transportation. The Wheels Appeal program is designed to help with these transportation needs. The program has two components:
- Donated vehicles are received, assessed, and repaired if necessary and appropriate. In 2005, the program received 80 vehicles.
- Vehicles are re-donated to qualified applicants.
A law passed in 2004 changed the tax-deduction policy. However, the IRS still allows a fair market value write-off for a vehicle that is donated and re-donated to a needy person. If a vehicle is not appropriate for re-donation, the vehicle may be sold. The proceeds are used to repair other vehicles or to support the various programs of Love INC.
To donate a vehicle or apply for a used vehicle, please call 732-542-7012, ext. 206.
"The Life You Change May Be Your Own"
Relational Ministries was developed as the result of seeing the same people return again and again to seek help with continuing problems. It is evident that the poor and the homeless need more than instant relief from the constant chaos of emergencies that define their lives. Although community service and faith-based organization projects provide important help, a holistic approach specifically addressing the problems that are created from one generation to another is necessary to combat the problem.
Relational Ministries offers budget counseling, life skills training, and computer training classes. These classes are designed to enhance life skills through education to improve the participants' opportunities in daily life.
The budget counseling class teaches basic budgeting skills that are based on biblical principles of money management. The free 10-week course includes one-on-one counseling sessins with a trained budget counselor. Incentives are offered for attending classes, completing assignments, and doing homework. Vouchers maybe earned and redeemed for a variety of goods and services such as free groceries and gasoline.
The life skills class is a free 10-week course that offers instruction in basic ways to relate to other people better, including stress and anger managements, conflict resolution, and setting boundries. Designed for both adults and teens, the class allows considerable interaction and discussion of life situations.
The computer training class is held at the Love INC office in Eatontown. This class is open to beginners and those with some computer experience. Students will learn word processing, Internet access and other programs that are used in business and healthcare fields. The goal is to help the students advance in their current jobs or find better jobs.
If you are interested in becoming a trained budget counselor or class instructor, please call 732-542-7012, ext. 209.

New Creations In Christ
New Creations In Christ is a low income, affordable housing initiative with 34 area churches working toward the goal of moving Monmouth County families into housing. In 2003, Love INC initiated a Pastors Forum that generated interest, provided education on the issue, and united a number of churches to evaluate this need, which today is in crisis proportions. In 2005, New Creations In Christ became its own non-profit organization with prayer teams and committees working on advocacy, a business plan, and a covenant for the churches to sign. In 2006 an executive director was named.
If you are interested in supporting this initiative, please call 732-542-7012.
