Second Life Bikes
Carolyn Reflects...
Divine Providence is the only way to describe Love INC getting involved in the need for used bikes. Several years ago while visiting a Love INC office in Michigan we saw a ministry with used bikes. The great number of bikes given not only met the local needs, but bikes were crated up and shipped overseas. I've had a heart for that ministry ever since. A bike can provide transportation for those with no other means to get around. As we do with everything at Love INC, we started praying!

Jersey Shore Rescue Mission is a non-profit organization with a big warehouse located in Asbury Park, NJ. Their mission is to work with those in need and particularly with homeless individuals. Carolyn approached them with the idea of housing bikes in their warehouse and reaching out to the local community in need. At around the same time Carolyn met Kerri from "Bike Church". For three years Kerri has been working with Holy Spirit Roman Catholic Church in Asbury Park with Father Bill at this youth-based earn-a-bike program.

Kerry started a ministry to recycle bikes and developed a program to teach preteen and teenagers how to repair bikes and learn safety skills. If they attend regularly they work toward receiving a bike of their own. The ministry also runs a used bike shop called Second Life Bikes.

And as God would have it, a partership was formed!

Kerri moved her ministry to the Jersey Shore Rescue Mission Warehouse. Love INC has a life skills course offered in Spanish and the hope is that through this partnership that adults who need bikes would be required to take the course before a bike is given. The used bike shop will help fund the many programs that Kerri has a vision for.

So Give Your Unwanted Bikes a Second Life!
Bikes can be dropped off Tuesday-Saturday, 9:30am - 5:30pm at the Jersey Shore Rescue Mission, 701 Memorial Drive (between Asbury Ave. and Sewell Dr.), Asbury Park, NJ. Visit Kerri's website at www.TheBikeChurch.org.
