- To promote and develop relationships between Love INC and the Monmouth County churches for creative solutions in helping those in need
Why Love INC?
The United States Congress passed the Welfare Reform Act in 1996. The impact of this act on Monmouth County has been significant and will continue. The law places a five-year limit on welfare beneficiaries, two years at any one time.
Accordingly, Work First New Jersey has placed strict time limits and sanctions on individuals and families who are no longer eligible for Emergency Assistance or Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF).
As a result, a great burden has been placed on the agencies, which are already in a compromising position, to turn needy people away due to lack of funding.
The situation provides the perfect opportunity for the faith-based organizations to respond to this crisis by providing programs to resolve the root problems of the poor.
To date in Monmouth County there are:
- Over 600 are homeless every night
- 1434 households receiving welfare and food stamps
- 7740 households receiving food stamps
- 95% of heads of households are single parents
